Retirement Investor

The Retirement Investor [Subclass 405] visa is a temporary visa (four years) for eligible people wishing to spend some of their retirement years in Australia.

Further four year extensions are available for those who continue to meet the criteria.

Criteria for this visa
To be sponsored by the state, you must meet the following criteria: :

  • Main applicant must be 55 years of age or older, have no dependants, apart from a spouse (who may be younger).
  • Be sponsored by Australian state or territory government agency (other than New South Wales or Australian Capital Territory).
  • Must be able to make a designated investment of AU$750,000 if you intend to live in a Metropolitan Area or AU$500,000 if you intend to live in Regional Australia.
  • You [and your spouse combined] must have access to a minimum income of AU$65,000 [for example from pension etc] (Metropolitan Area) or AU$50,000 per annum (Regional Australia).
  • For any subsequent 4 year Investor Retirement visa you must be able to maintain or make an minimum designated investment with the state of AU$500,000 (Metropolitan Area) or AU$250,000 (Regional Australia)

DIAC requirements

  • The initial and second visa application charge includes a non-refundable charge of AU$10,670 per person, this is to offset aged care costs,
  • Each applicant must also provide evidence that they hold a private health insurance package that meets the Department of Health and Ageing guidelines throughout their period of stay in Australia,
  • Investor Retirement Visa holders can work up to 20 hours per week
